If you’re a man between 18 and 39 and want to assist in the reproduction process, you could get paid to donate sperm.
Many people seek sperm donors because the male partner in a relationship either carries a genetic disease/disorder or is sterile.
They might also want to avoid the hassles of fostering or adopting a child.
Here’s how the sperm donation/insemination procedure works: a patient goes to a sperm bank to obtain a semen sample via self-stimulation in a private room.
Then, said sperm bank stores the sample until an individual or a couple purchases it.
It can be used for the following types of insemination:
- IUI (Intrauterine Insemination) – IUI entails removing dead sperm and seminal fluid before freezing the sample. (When the sample’s thawed, it’s injected into the uterus.)
- ICI (Intra Cervical Insemination) – Through ICI, sperm are placed near the cervix, allowing them to travel to the uterus.
- IVF (In Vitro Fertilization) Prepared Sperm – Unlike IUI and ICI, fewer sperm are required for IVF treatments. (The sperm are used to fertilize a retrieved egg before being returned to the womb to develop into a baby.)
Between 2023 and 2030, it’s predicted that the sperm bank market will experience a compound annual growth rate of 3.56 percent. (In 2022, North America alone encompassed most of the sperm bank market with a 36.9 percent share.)
The sperm bank market doesn’t only benefit potential parents; it also benefits you because you get to make some extra cash.
Speaking of which, let’s cover how much you can make from sperm donation.
Table of Contents
How Much Do You Get Paid to Donate Sperm?
The compensation amount varies from sperm bank to sperm bank.
For example, if you live in the United States, it’s typically around $100 per donation; If you’re a U.K. resident, expect to earn about £35 per donation.
Some facilities let you donate a few times a week, making it possible for you to earn up to $1,000+ per month. (Not bad for something that requires little to no effort!)
Below are locations that allow you to earn money donating sperm.

Donating Sperm for Money: FAQs
Here are commonly asked questions surrounding sperm donation.
Can I donate if I’m over 39?
Some of the facilities I listed, such as European Sperm Bank and the World Egg and Sperm Bank, allow you to donate sperm if you’re older than 39.
That being said, research shows that sperm quality decreases by age 40, making it tougher for older men to father children.
True, celebrities like Mick Jagger became the father of his last child at 73, but he’s the exception, not the rule.
What do I do to ensure healthy sperm?
Follow these guidelines to maintain sperm quality:
- Exercise each day (Even a brisk walk is better than nothing.)
- Don’t smoke
- Limit your alcohol intake
- Avoid exposing your testicles to heat sources like hot tubs and laptops
- Get plenty of sleep
- Eat healthy foods like vegetables and fruit
What disqualifies me from donating sperm?
Factors that disqualify you from donating sperm include STDs, genetic conditions like cystic fibrosis or epilepsy, little to no sperm count, drugs, and aging out of a donor program.
I’m Canadian. Can I make money donating sperm?
Unfortunately, no, at least not in Canada.
Because of the 2004 Canada’s Assistance Human Reproduction Act, it’s illegal for Canadians to earn money via sperm donation.
However, you could make money from sperm donations if you’re willing to go to a sperm bank in the U.S., Australia, or the U.K., provided that it accepts international donors.
I noticed that egg donation pays more than sperm donation ($4000+ per cycle vs ~$100 per donation). Why?
Egg donation pays more than sperm donation because it’s more medically involved than sperm donation.
To elaborate, egg donors need to take medication to stimulate their ovaries, regularly attend monitoring appointments, and of course, go through the egg retrieval procedure.
How can I find where to donate sperm near me?
If you’re lucky to live near any of the facilities I’ve posted, just click on the link and begin applying.
But if you don’t, type “where to donate sperm near me” into Google or another search engine and select the location in your city (or the one closest to your city if you don’t mind long-distance travel).
Give Sperm and Get Money!
By donating sperm, you’re making it easier for singles and couples to create families.
You’re also making it easier for yourself to make extra money if you want an alternative to typical side hustles like rideshare and investing.
So what do you need the money for?
A night out with friends?
A gift for a special someone?
Cash for an overdue bill?
Regardless of your goals, start applying to a donor program, and you could get paid to donate sperm.
